Amish Mud Sales in Lancaster County
What is a Mud Sale? They are annual Amish auctions/sales to benefit local fire companies in Lancaster County. You’ll need to wear your boots because they are held in the fields that are often muddy from the early spring thawing. Held annually before the planting season, you’ll find a mud sale every weekend from now through April.
Thousands come to some of them with one of the largest in Gordonville on March 8. One of the biggest draws to mud sales is the interaction with Amish people in a friendly, person-to-person way. You’ll find numerous Amish auctioneers selling everything from livestock, buggies, lumber, furniture, handmade quilts, books, housewares, and more. And the food is awesome! Choices abound from hearty farm fare like chicken corn soup and potpie to hot cider and sticky buns to Pennsylvania Dutch shoofly pie and much more.
