Campfire Hikes at Zimmerman Center
If you're an avid hiker, you know there's never an off-season for your sport. A winter hike in the cold air gets your heart pumping, and the exercise helps you beat the winter blues. Plus, the peaceful, snowy surroundings of hiking trails in the winter provide a calm, tranquil environment to escape and rejuvenate. Even if you're more of a recreational hiker, you'll enjoy getting outdoors during your wintertime stay at BF Hiestand House with a Campfire Hike!
Explore Native Lands County Park, where the last known town of the Susquehannock people once stood. Several of the trails are rated easy to moderate, so they are appropriate for hikers of all fitness levels. Strolling at a leisurely pace, the guide will lead participants to observe winter wildlife and practice species identification along the way.
As you might have guessed by the name of the hikes, you'll warm up next to a toasty campfire at the conclusion of your trek through the winter wonderland and enjoy a comforting cup of hot chocolate. So don't stay cooped up indoors this winter... head out for a hike!
The Zimmerman Center is open to the public year-round, with guided tours of the historic riverfront home that dates back to the mid-1880s. It's now the headquarters for Susquehanna Heritage and a place to learn about Susquehannock Indian life and the nature and ecology of the mighty Susquehanna River.
