Explore York, PA for the Made in America Tours 20th Anniversary
York County, PA is famous for its factories and farms; it's why travelers from around the world visit the Factory Tour Capital of the World to learn about the homemade processes of their favorite snacks or get a behind-the-scenes look into the making of their favorite products. From Martin's potato chips to Harley-Davidson motorcycles, York celebrates its thriving global factories as well as its family-owned artisan shops for the 20th Anniversary Made in America Tours event June 13-16, 2018. The annual celebration is fun for the whole family and offers a new vantage point from the production floor. Walkthrough a dairy farm famous for its chocolate milk, watch soap being made by the Amish, or taste-test potato chips as more are made before your eyes. You won't have time for them all, but each offers a unique first-hand look at the specialized American craftsmanship that has made York County so special for centuries.
A favorite destination for wine-lovers and savvy sippers, the banks of the Susquehanna River have brought millions of visitors over the years. During the Made in America Tours event, discover York County's best boutique wineries like Thunder Ridge Vineyards, Adams County Winery, and Nissley Vineyards and Winery Estate. Walk outside among the vines, see grapes pressed inside and then bottled, and finally enjoy some wine tastings in the shop. The tours at Nissley are 20-30 minutes long and the vineyard is located just a short, seven-mile drive from our historic bed and breakfast.
What makes the Made in America Tours event so impressive (other than that glass of wine you just had) is its diversity. After your winery tour, consider something unexpected, something you don't know much about or a company that has only opened its doors for one of the four-event days. If you're interested in science, learning new things, or just trying to do something different, pay a visit to Microtrac, Inc. just north of York City for the Made in America Tours event. On Friday alone, Microtrac, Inc. opens its doors from 10 AM-2 PM, hosting 20-minute guided tours through its day-to-day operations center building full of small (albeit high-tech) machines used to view an entire world we can't see with our own eyes. The Microtrac machines are used to view nanoparticles (an ant is 1,000,000 times the size of one nanoparticle) and were the first of their kind. They're often used to specialize the taste of your food on an incredibly microscopic scale. Microtrac demonstrates how their technology is used to specialize the flavor and sweetness of the chocolate you eat by examining nanoparticles, making it an excellent and unique tour option if you're planning a visit to Hershey's Chocolate World afterward, only 30 minutes away.
