Feel the Community Spirit at Marietta Day
Nothing celebrates the spirit of our historic Susquehanna River town quite like Marietta Day. First held in 1979 by the Marietta Restoration Associates to promote community awareness and spirit, Marietta Day has been going strong for four decades. Crowds come from all over for this annual event, which is part flea market, part street festival and part artisan fair. So make plans to join in the fun in downtown Marietta on the third Saturday in May — in 2023, that's May 20.
Marietta Day vendors and artisans will line eight blocks along Market Street between Perry and Chestnut streets. B.F. Hiestand House guests can walk to the festivities from our bed-and-breakfast, or find parking along Front Street. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be plenty of sales, food, games and live music to enjoy. Marietta residents are invited to set up tables for sidewalk sales, while local artists and craftspeople will be selling their handmade creations. Be sure to check out the Artisans' Corner near Molly's Courtyard Cafe for unique arts, crafts and other goods. In addition to the mile-long stretch of tents and booths, visitors can explore Marietta's downtown shops, many of which offer special deals and promotions during Marietta Day.
As you stroll through downtown, you'll surely work up an appetite. No problem, because food trucks and civic groups will be cheffing up some delicious eats — from fresh-squeezed lemonade and soft pretzels to sausage sandwiches and walking tacos. (We're partial to the Lions Club's roast beef sandwiches.) Or you can take advantage of the food and drink specials at any of Marietta's downtown restaurants.
But it’s not just about the shopping, eating and people-watching. Marietta Day offers something special for everyone by creating meaningful memories and building a strong sense of community among its visitors. It's the reason people come back year after year, and why Marietta Day has been going strong for more than 40 years. So, come out and explore Marietta Day yourself! Discover what makes this yearly event and the riverfront community we call home delightfully unique.
